May in Red Lake

Oh... Spring in Red Lake is grand.
There are floods in Manitoba, forest fires in Alberta, tornadoes in the states and homes are being destroyed.  But we in Northwestern Ontario are relatively sheltered.  We count our blessings.

First little outing of the season was a morning hike and paddle to the Trout Lake access with my good friend Kaaren.  Of course along the way we found some treasures.

The paddle was fine... really fine

On the May long weekend, I ventured out to see what I could find.  Saw my first spring bear but was not quick enough to capture a photo.  This photo was borrowed
(photo compliments of Suzette)

Also young moose

And evidence of many more wild creatures - wolf

More recently, I had myself a work trip in the park.  Destination - Lund Lake to cut a portage trail.

It felt good to do real physical hard work again.

Can anyone tell how happy I am being here?

We had a good share of rain, winds, cold temps but that did not deter me from enjoying our natural settings.

Saw me a swan, snow geese, grouse, a wolf, and I even witnessed a beaver felling a tree and was amazed at how quickly they can run when a tree is about to fall.

The simple pleasures of camping - fresh coffee and toasted bagle

OH..  and on the topic of fresh coffee, the rumours are no longer.  It is true, it is for real, Tim Horton is coming to Red Lake.  Yay.....
